Delivering Goodbaby from China to the world

The parent and baby product industry is a big, competitive one, so anyone who has cornered a third of that global market share is clearly doing something right.

Meet Goodbaby, which produces one in three of all baby strollers sold globally and owns some of the most recognisable brand names in the business, including Cybex, gb Global and Evenflo.

Based in Kunshan, near Shanghai, China, we’ve helped it to go from a mid-market player in the Chinese market to one of the leaders in its industry globally. It’s now one of the biggest international names in “baby travel” products – including buggies and car seats.

Wherever our business has grown, HSBC has supported us.

Focus and global vision

We’ve worked with Goodbaby for over 10 years. It now has a presence in more than 90 countries worldwide, with its main export markets in the US, Europe and Japan.

The company was founded in 1989, focusing initially on the Chinese market, before eventually adopting a more global approach.

“Focus and global vision – these have been the core principles of Goodbaby’s 35-year journey,” said Liu Tongyou, CEO of Goodbaby International.

When Goodbaby became the number one name in its space in China, it needed a financial partner to help it go global – and that’s where we came in. We now provide the client with credit facilities, supporting it with working capital, trade needs, foreign exchange services and more.

“HSBC stepped in and helped, not just with financial support, but with our efforts to establish ourselves as a growing international brand,” said Mr Song.

Long-term partnership

“Our geographic footprint has made us a natural partner for China-headquartered companies like Goodbaby,” said Adam Tian, Head of Corporate, Greater Eastern China, HSBC Commercial Banking, who manages the relationship, along with Eric Yu, Global Relationship Director, and colleagues.

“Now we support them all over the world, including in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Germany, the US and UK.”

The importance of the customer and collaboration is something both HSBC and Goodbaby share, with Mr Liu coming up with quite a fitting analogy for a shared journey.

“If we envision the market as a highway network, HSBC has already established multiple service areas at every junction,” he said.

And both continue to progress in the same direction at pace, according to Mr Song. “We believe HSBC and Goodbaby can establish a long-term partnership, accompanying our growth and unlocking a future full of opportunities,” he said.
